Referrals

If when seeing your GP they decide that you need to be referred to see a specialist, you will be able to decide which hospital you would like to attend. You will be given a token by your GP with a telephone number to ring the Patient Choice advisor at the local booking centre in Carlisle. Please ring 5 working days after your GP appointment to enable your referral letter to be typed and sent to the Booking Centre.

You can ring the Booking Centre on 03447760003 between the hours of 08:30-18:00 Monday to Friday.

If the booking centre do not hear from you within 16 days they will assume that you do not wish to make an appointment.

Please be aware that calls will be recorded for training purposes.

Travel Vaccinations

If you are planning to travel abroad and think that you may need vaccinations please see one of our practice nurses in plenty of time to make sure that there is enough time to complete the course of vaccinations.

For further details about the vaccinations you may require when travelling abroad, visit www.doh.gov.uk/traveladvice.

Non-urgent advice: Please note

We do not administer yellow fever vaccines.

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

Europe Europe & RussiaNorth America North America
Central America Central AmericaSouth America South America
Caribbean CaribbeanAfrica Africa
Middle East Middle EastCentral Asia Central Asia
East Asia East AsiaAustralasia  Australasia and Pacific

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  – at least 6 weeks before you travel – as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Travel Health Questionnaire

To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.

Travelling in Europe

If you are travelling to Europe a very useful booklet has been published with advice and guidance to help you get the most out of your holiday.

To visit please click: http://ec.europa.eu/publications/booklets/eu_glance/86/en.pdf (this is a large document and may take a minute or two to view).

Flu Vaccines

Every autumn the practice offer flu injections to patients at risk, all patients over 65, those with diabetes, chest, heart and asthmatic complaints. If you wish to have flu vaccination, please ask at reception.

Childhood Immunisations

These are organised and usually given by our health visitors.

For further details, visit www.immunisation.org.uk

Minor Operations

Our doctors are experienced in performing minor operations to remove “lumps and bumps”. These are usually done under local anaesthetic in the treatment room with the assistance of a practice nurse. If you would like a skin lesion removed, please make an appointment to have it first assessed by one of the doctors who perform minor surgery.

Dr. Booth also specialises in acupuncture.

Dr Chris Hall is experienced in performing minor operations to remove “lumps and bumps”. These are usually done under local anaesthetic in the treatment room with the assistance of a practice nurse. If you would like a skin lesion removed, please make an appointment with Dr Hall to have it assessed.

Postnatal Checks

Usually 6 weeks after the birth of your baby, both mother and child will be sent an appointment to attend surgery for a checkup with a doctor and a nurse. Your baby’s weight, length and head circumference will be measured and the doctor will examine your baby to check their heart, hips, circulation etc. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you have.

You yourself will be examined if necessary and you will be able to discuss such topics as contraception.
